October 27th Update

Hi Families!  I just have a few updates for you for this week.

1.  Home Reading: We have received our RAZ Kids license.  Please look forward to getting all the information and getting started with this on Monday!  We are so excited!

2.  Halloween:  Please have your child wear their costume to school on Friday morning.  If it's not appropriate for outside, please make sure they have snow pants or whatever else they need to stay warm.  Because we are going to have these great outfits on they will serve as our Friday Show and Share.  Please don't send anything else on this day.  Due to COVID we are not able to share snacks for parties (so sad) so please send your child a yummy/healthy snack with them.

3.  Agendas:  Thanks for continuing to check your child's agenda regularly as time goes on we will be writing in more and more information each week.  It's also a great communication tool for you to let me know about changes in drop offs or pick ups etc.

If you have any questions please feel free to message me at any time.

Hello,

I have emailed you a file explaining how to join/set up TEAMs on your computer. Please look it over as our Parent/Teacher Interviews will be through TEAMS.

Here is also a video if it is your first time setting up TEAMS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au4AMi9z28c&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=JesseSadlowski

Your child’s login information will be coming home in their agenda today.

Have a great day!

Weekly Update

Happy Friday Everyone!

There are just a few updates for you heading in to next week.

What an emotional process it has been setting up for a new Grade One classroom.  While it has been so hard letting go of some of my students, I know in my heart it is absolutely the best thing for the learning of all of our Grade One students.  Thank you so much to everyone for your understanding and patience during such a huge transition.  For those families that are moving to Miss Birch’s class, your child received a letter in their agendas from Mrs. Hurkett today outlining the procedures for Monday morning.

September 30 is Orange Shirt Day.  Please see the following link if you’d like more information about this day.  We hope to see lots of orange on this day!

Just a reminder that there is NO school October 12-15.

Picture retake day is October 27.  All students who were away for pictures will also have their photos taken on this day.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Weekly Update

Hello Families!

What a great week we’ve had!  I have truly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of your littles!   Because we are a “cohort” and  are spending SO much time together, I am extremely grateful for this wonderful group of kiddos.  They are becoming fast friends.

I’m so proud of how much we’ve accomplished!  While we will begin writing weekly sight words in our agendas soon, we aren’t quite ready for that yet.  In the meantime, I’ll keep you posted via email as to what we’ve been working on in both Language Arts and Math.

Sight Words:  I  CAN  SEE   (We are also learning to read our color words)

Printing:  Practicing starting our letters from the TOP, sizing of capital and lowercase letters when we print and only using one capital letter when we print our first name.

Math:  We are working on patterning and numbers to 10 (counting, reading number words etc.)

We have also started our Colors unit in Science, My World in Social, and are working on our Physical Health unit in Health

Thank you for continuing to send masks with your child.  They are doing very well with them and continue to get better at routines of where to store them, how to wear them properly etc.

We are now regularly wearing our indoor shoes during the day so if you haven’t send any in, please do so ASAP.

If you haven’t sent me an email regarding your child’s pre-existing conditions, (only if they have any) please do so by Monday as I need to submit them to the office at that time.

Thank you SO much to those of you who have made the difficult choice to keep your children home if they are sick.  This is such a tricky time for all of us, but working together we are doing our best to keep our school community safe.  You should have received an email from the school today regarding protocols, please be sure to read it.

For those of you who missed photos, retake day is October 26th

Have a fabulous sunny weekend everyone!  Please do not ever hesitate to send me an email with any concerns, questions or even celebrations!

First Week Update

 Hello Families!

What a great first week we had!  I can’t say enough how proud I am of each and every one of my students for how they handled the “new normal” of school.

We have been busy learning new routines and getting to know each other.  Here are just a few things I’d like to update you on.

Picture Day

Picture day is this THURSDAY.  Come wearing your best smile!

Indoor Shoes

If you haven’t sent in a pair of indoor running shoes for your child, please do so ASAP.

Masks:

All my Grade 1s have done a great job remembering to bring and wear their masks.  While it is a work in progress, we are making this a huge priority and things are going well.  If you don’t already have a system set up, it would be very helpful if your child brings 2 masks each day (just in case one gets extra dirty or wet etc.) and has a pouch or baggie in their backpack in which to place masks that are to be washed.  (I bought my own daughter two small pencil cases from the dollar store and we marked one CLEAN and one DIRTY).  Also, please be aware that all MMH students received the same masks to take home, so marking them with a name would be very helpful.

Birthdays:

If you would like to send a birthday treat in for our class on your child’s birthday, you are more than welcome but it must be a nut free PRE-PACKAGED snack.  Thanks so much.

NUT AWARE:

We have a student in our class this year with a nut/tree nut allergy.

Agendas and Student Profile Sheet:

Please send the Student Profile Sheet back at your earliest convenience.  Agendas should be checked and signed at home each day and will be checked by me each day as well.  While we won’t be writing much at first, we will very quickly be writing often in our agendas.  Thanks!

Pre-Existing Conditions:

Please let me know ASAP via email if your child has a pre-existing condition that may cause them to show “symptoms” of any kind.  ie: asthma, allergies…  These will be recorded and a list kept in the office.

Have a safe and wonderful long weekend!  See you Tuesday!
